County Facilities Management has opened a brand new bike cage for
employees to use at the downtown County-City Building Campus. The new
bike cage will provide a secure and convenient location for employees to
park their bike while at work. The bike cage is available to any Pierce
County employee to use while commuting to and from work. There are even
lockers and showers available for employees to make biking to work even
The bike cage has ten spaces available for employees to use, but there is room to expand if additional spaces are needed.
Designed with green in mind
The bike cage supports the County's goal to improve access to sustainable transportation options at Pierce County buildings and was designed and constructed using many reused and recycled materials.
- The old storage lockers that were once hiding in the CCB basement have now found a new home in the bike cage. They were refurbished and painted with non-toxic, no-VOC electric green paint (yes, they’re bright!) and now provide excellent storage for your biking equipment.
-The colorful wall divider in the bike cage was also repurposed from a recent energy efficient lighting upgrade we completed. Rather than disposing of the old light fixture lenses, we incorporated them into the bike cage design in a creative new way.
-Energy efficiency is also a priority in all of our projects, so the new LED lighting uses a fraction of the energy compared to conventional lights and will automatically turn off when no one is using the bike cage, adding to even more energy savings.
