Our team of four environmental educators work to cultivate relationships between communities and the environment. We provide knowledge, tools and connections necessary for people to work, play and learn together.
We believe that nurturing curiosity, developing skills to answer questions, a strong sense of self and the ability to lead is critical to creating a vibrant, healthy and engaged community. We want to create lifelong, practical learning skills.
We also believe that the best techniques to make this happen are through integrated, hands-on activities and inquiry-based education.
K–12 Academic Program
This free program is available to teachers of all grades, in all schools in Pierce County (outside of Tacoma).
Lessons are integrated with your classroom curriculum, and culminate with a community action project.
Programs are designed with your group of teachers in three main areas of environmental education. Our programs support State Academic Learning Standards.
Community Action Projects
Also known as Service Learning Projects, they are the most important component to the program because they give students the final piece that pulls together what they have learned.
Projects vary, but to be successful they must meet your needs. We will help you plan and can connect you with resources and community partners available to help. Past action projects include school gardens, recycled art exhibits and habitat restoration.

Educational programs and project assistance are also available to volunteer groups, teams, clubs or societies who want to take action in their community. The program is free and available to all Pierce County residents. Fill out the form to request a meeting with one of our educators.
We especially encourage groups to consider partnering with a school or youth organization on their project in order to provide a broader benefit to the community and have a larger impact on the environment.
