Motorists can expect moderate delays on Brookdale Road East, 131st Street East, and A Street South in Parkland from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 23-24 while crews place the final pavement on the roadway.
A pilot car will guide motorists though the paving project, which begins on Brookdale Road East at Golden Givens Road, follows Brookdale Road East to where it merges with 131st Street East, continues west to A Street South and turns south along A Street South to 133rd Street East. Access for homeowners, businesses and emergency service organizations will be maintained at all times.
This work is the final step in Pierce County's project to replace a sewer main along Brookdale Road. The project included the replacement of a 30-inch concrete interceptor pipe that was corroded, nearing capacity and subject to groundwater infiltration. This project abandoned the existing 30-inch concrete pipe by filling it with controlled density fill and replaced about 5,000 feet of existing 30-inch and 8-inch diameter sanitary sewer pipe with a new 72-inch interceptor pipe. About 750 feet of new 36-inch diameter pipe and a new pump station was also installed.
The contractor for the project is Northwest Cascade, Inc. The construction cost is approximately $10 million and was funded with sewer ratepayer funds.
