Pawnbroker means every person engaged, in whole or in part, in the business of loaning money on the security of pledges, deposits, or conditional sales of personal property, or who makes a public display at or near his place of business of any sign or symbol generally used by pawnbrokers, or of any sign indicating that he has money to loan on personal property on deposit or pledge.


Applicants must complete a business license application and pass a background check. These licenses are annual licenses and must be renewed upon expiration. Applications may be submitted in person or by mail. A limited number of licenses are available. Please contact our business licensing department about availability at (253) 798-7445.

First time applicants must obtain a development permit from Pierce County Planning and Land Services. For more information please contact PALS at (253) 798-3739 or review Pierce County Code 2.05.040. Information on their fees can be found here.
