Three Easy Ways to Apply for a Marriage License:

  • Online.
  • By mail (Application must be notarized).
  • In person.

Your License is valid for 60 days in Washington State.

Online:

  • Complete online application and click the 'Apply' button.
  • Then, visit the Auditor's office. You must both appear in person to complete the online process.
  • You must wait three days before the marriage can take place. The 3-day waiting period does not begin until you have both appeared in the office.
  • You must both be at least 18 years old. Bring photo ID.
  • The fee is $64.00 cash, money order, or cashier's check. No personal checks.

  • Complete online application.
  • Click on 'Print Preview' to print the Marriage Application.
  • You must both sign the Application in front of a notary.
  • Mail the Original Notarized Application and a $64.00 money order or cashier's check. No personal checks.
  • You must include the address where to mail the Marriage Packet and a contact phone number. (Without a mailing address and contact phone number, we will hold your packet until we hear from you.)
  • You must wait three days before the marriage can take place. Your 3-day waiting period will begin when we process your application.

In person:

  • Visit the Auditor's office. You must both appear in person to apply for a marriage license.
  • You must both be at least 18 years old. Bring photo ID.

  • Your marriage license is valid in Washington State.
  • If either party is 17 years old, they must have parent's consent.
  • A blood test or physical is NOT required in Washington State.
  • A marriage license and marriage certificate are different documents. The marriage license permits a marriage to take place. The marriage certificate indicates that a legal marriage has been performed.
  • If you have misplaced your marriage packet, you may obtain a duplicate packet for $6.00. Contact our office for more information 253-798-7435.
Forms
Certified copies of Marriage Certificate
  • Copies can be obtained in our office for $3.00 per copy.
  • Include the names of the groom, bride and date of marriage when requesting copies of certificates.
  • Checks are accepted for copies only.
  • You can also come in person to the office for copies. There is approximately a one week turnaround for mail-in requests.
  • Note: Certificates are filed in the county in which they were purchased.
    Plain copies of Certificates are $1.00.
  • 5-year record search for Certificates is $8.00, this fee applies to all marriage records prior to 1984.
