Glass is not collected curbside in Pierce County Because glass breaks during collection and processing, it ends up contaminating the other recyclables. There is very little market demand for glass so most of it is stockpiled and waiting to be re-used.
Small part of our waste stream Even without curbside collection, there is very little glass in our waste stream. In fact, there is much more recyclable paper, plastic and metal in our garbage cans than glass!
Our program is designed to collect material that is recycled into new products. Glass collected separately at drop-off sites has a much better chance of being recycled.
