Companionship is designed to provide recreation and leisure opportunities for individuals of all abilities and their families. There is no membership fee. Pre-registration is required.

Companionship What's Cookin'?

Lakewood Community Center (map)

Learn basic kitchen safety, food preparation skills, and hygiene while making easy meals each week. Cooks will learn to prepare a simple meal that can be prepared at home as well. Week #1 will focus on breakfast, week #2 will focus on lunch, and week #3 will focus on supper.

Pizza & Ice Bumper Cars

Are you curious about Ice Bumper Cars, the cool new trend that's hit Pierce County Parks? This is your chance to check it out! We'll grub on some pizza at Farrelli's Pizza and then head to Sprinker Recreation Center for some time on the ice in the new ice bumper cars. This activity is co-ed, so invite all your friends!

Movie & Ice Cream Club

We’re off to the movies! Each month Companionship Movie Club participants will take a trip to a local movie theater and watch a great movie. The movie titles will be a surprise until the week before the outing, but we promise they’ll be great! We’ll watch comedies, action movies, rom-coms, animated movies and more. All movies will be rated G to PG-13. We’ll always stop for an ice cream treat either before or after the movie too! Companionship’s Movie Club is designed for individuals 16-30 years to participate in fun outings with friends.

Judy, our talented art instructor, will guide you step-by-step while you make a masterpiece that you can hang in your own home. Enjoy cookies, friends, and discover your creative side. Guy Time: Bowling & Burgers

It's a day for the guys! We're loading up and heading across the Narrows Bridge to Gig Harbor for a day of fun. We'll bowl a few games at Ocean5, then we'll have lunch at the Lunchbox Laboratory. Remember to wear socks!

Girl Time: Shopping & Lunch

It's a day for the girls! Let's get a jump start on our holiday shopping. We'll head to the Tacoma Mall and hit up all the best shops. We'll stop for an energy boost and lunch at the Blazing Onion and then keep on going! Come prepared with a list of names, gift ideas, and your money. Please note that Parks staff will not be responsible for holding or handling participants' money, though they will be on hand for verification.

Theater Day: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever - BONUS ACTIVITY

Through a partnership between Pierce County Parks & Recreation and the Lakewood Playhouse, we are excited to offer this bonus activity to our Teen & Young Adults Social Activity participants! We're off to the Lakewood Playhouse to watch  The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. The Herdmans are the worst kids in the history of the world – so when they crash Sunday school and demand parts in the Christmas pageant, the whole town panics. It's up to Grace, first-time director, and the Reverend to help their community see the Christmas story and the Herdman kids through new eyes in this adaptation of the funny and touching holiday classic. This activity is co-ed, so invite all your friends!

Lights & Delights

Tour Fantasy Lights, the largest drive-through display of lights in the Northwest in our holiday "party bus"!  Our accessible bus will have the best seats in town with its giant windows. We'll be treated to all kinds of lighted whimsy and fun, including bears flying kites, Santa & Rudolph sailing a tall ship, and penguins at play. When we've finished "oohing" and "ahhing" over the lights, we'll head to Denny's for dessert. Yum!

Companionship's Santa Sounder!

All aboard Companionship's Santa Sounder! Board the Sounder in Puyallup and make the round-trip to Seattle with us. We'll have fun holiday activities while we're onboard the train. We'll catch the 5:27pm train from Puyallup to Seattle, remain onboard, and return to Puyallup on the 6:30pm train, arriving in Puyallup at 7:12pm. Upon our return to the Puyallup station, we'll be greeted by Santa! This will be the perfect opportunity to tell Santa about any last minute gifts you'd like!

This event requires pre-registration. Be sure to register early for this very popular activity.
