Companionship is designed to provide recreation and leisure opportunities for individuals of all abilities and their families. There is no membership fee. Pre-registration is required.

Lights & Delights

Lakewood Community Center (map)

Tour Fantasy Lights, the largest drive-through display of lights in the Northwest in our holiday "party bus"!  Our accessible bus will have the best seats in town with its giant windows. We'll be treated to all kinds of lighted whimsy and fun, including bears flying kites, Santa & Rudolph sailing a tall ship, and penguins at play. When we've finished "oohing" and "ahhing" over the lights, we'll head to Denny's for dessert. Yum!

Companionship's Santa Sounder!

All aboard Companionship's Santa Sounder! Board the Sounder in Puyallup and make the round-trip to Seattle with us. We'll have fun holiday activities while we're onboard the train. We'll catch the 5:27pm train from Puyallup to Seattle, remain onboard, and return to Puyallup on the 6:30pm train, arriving in Puyallup at 7:12pm. Upon our return to the Puyallup station, we'll be greeted by Santa! This will be the perfect opportunity to tell Santa about any last minute gifts you'd like!

This event requires pre-registration. Be sure to register early for this very popular activity.

Winter Break Camp

Not sure what to do after all of the holiday excitement wears off? Join us for fun games, activities, and socialization! Campers will participate in crafts, gym time, field trips and more! This camp is designed specifically for individuals ages 16 and older who have special needs. Campers will need to bring a sack lunch each day

Transportation to and from Winter Break Camp is the responsibility of the parent/caregiver. Campers who are not toilet trained, or who pose a threat to themselves or others, or who engage in property destruction must come with the assistance of a care provider. Campers must be ambulatory (the ability to move unassisted using feet, crutches, walker, wheelchair, etc.).

Movie & Ice Cream Club

We’re off to the movies! Each month Companionship Movie Club participants will take a trip to a local movie theater and watch a great movie. The movie titles will be a surprise until the week before the outing, but we promise they’ll be great! We’ll watch comedies, action movies, rom-coms, animated movies and more. All movies will be rated G to PG-13. We’ll always stop for an ice cream treat either before or after the movie too! Companionship’s Movie Club is designed for individuals 16-30 years to participate in fun outings with friends.

Companionship Color Your World Art

Break out the brushes, paints, paper and more: Companionship is back with its series of inclusive art classes! Participants will learn to express themselves through a wide variety of art media and techniques. All materials are included in the program fee.

Pizza & PJ's Party

Time to get into your comfiest pajamas, grab a pillow, and come chill with your Companionship friends. We'll spend the evening making pizzas, sampling treats from our popcorn bar, and watching movies (rated G to PG-13) This activity is co-ed, so invite all your friends!

Seattle's International District

Meridian Habitat Park - Puyallup (map) 

Are you ready for an adventure with an international flair? Experience Seattle's International District with friends! We'll travel to Angle Lake in our bus, then catch the Link Light Rail to the International District. While we're there, we'll see the sites, have some lunch, and maybe take in a shop or two. This will be an adventure full of walking, so be prepared. Don't forget to bring a little spending money if you'd like to bring home a souvenir. This activity is co-ed, so invite all your friends!

Companionship What's Cookin'?

Learn basic kitchen safety, food preparation skills, and hygiene while making easy meals each week. Cooks will learn to prepare a simple meal that can be prepared at home as well. Week #1 will focus on breakfast, week #2 will focus on lunch, and week #3 will focus on supper.

NEW - Youth Social Adventures

School Age Social Adventures activities are designed for individuals 6 to 12 years to participate in fun outings with friends. Participants will have the opportunity to practice socialization, following directions, and getting along with a group. Staff ratio will be 1:4-6. Registration fees cover transportation in our shiny, new, wheelchair accessible bus, trip management, tickets/entrance fees, and food when designated. Prior to participation in these activities, families with registered children will be contacted by Companionship Program staff to ensure that we have all of the information we need to ensure the safety of our participants.

Hands On Children's Museum of Olympia & Lunch

We're loading up our bus and heading south to visit the multi-award winning Hands On Children's Museum in Olympia. We'll spend a couple of hours in the morning exploring the exhibits and participating in their new Special Art Time program during their sensory friendly event. Following our exploration of the museum, we'll stop for lunch in the Play Day Cafe where participants will be able to choose a lunch from a limited menu

"Junie B. Jones, The Musical" at the Tacoma Musical Playhouse

We're heading to the theater today! From the Playhouse's website, 'It's Junie B.'s first day of first grade, and a lot of things have changed for her: Junie's friend, Lucille, doesn't want to be her best pal anymore and, on the bus, Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. Also, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard and her teacher, Mr. Scary, thinks she may need glasses. Throw in a friendly cafeteria lady, a kickball tournament and a "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal," and first grade has never been more exciting.'
