Specialized Recreation Activities

Welcome to Pierce County Parks Specialized Recreation - Adventure with in Reach. We are so excited to offer a variety of programs for participants of all ages and abilities in Pierce County. Remember we are on an Adventure so do not be afraid to try something new.

We have designed our programs based on the most recent “Safe Start” guidelines and are committed to modifying them from virtual-only to in-person (or a combination of both), as soon as it’s safe to do so.  


Sign up for one or several sessions/events at a time. Each session is limited to the first 10 registered participants. 

Any person may register, they do not have to have a disability. We welcome friends, siblings, and family to participate.

  • Pre-Registration is required. Participants can register early for as many sessions as they wish.
  • Space is limited to the first 10 registered each day.
  • Pre-register online or by phone at (253) 798-4177 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

This program is supported by DDA funding and respite money may be used. If using DDA funds, please be sure to mention DDA funds when calling to have a registration processed.


Virtual activities will meet online - Log in each day from a personal device. A ZOOM link will be emailed to you after registration.

PCSR Manic Monday Meet up

Hang out with us at the beginning of the week - virtually! Fill your cup with coffee, tea, juice, or water, log in and let’s chat! Register for each meeting.

PCSR Art Class

Meet us in-person or on ZOOM for art class to relax and create! Step by step instructions and materials will be provided for each art project. Different projects each week. All levels of artists are encouraged to join the class! 

  • Monday classes are in-person at the Lakewood Community Center, 9112 Lakewood Dr. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499. Project materials will be provided at the center.
  • Tuesday Virtual classes, you'll receive a ZOOM link sent to your email allowing you to enter our private virtual art class. Class materials will be available each week for pickup.

PCSR FUNctional Fitness

Do you have a 2021 new year’s resolution? Lets work together to achieve your fitness goals. We’ll work on balance, flexibility, strength, and cardio; with a low impact circuit style workout.

PCSR Bowling 

Our Specialized Recreation bowling meets once a week at Narrows Plaza Bowling for 5 week sessions. Teams of two will be competing for the win. If you want to join with a friend, please sign up together and specify when you register. Price includes all costs.

PCSR Grit City Social Connection

Join this weekly social recreation group to see your old friends, and make new ones. We will be chatting, dancing, painting, playing games, doing light exercises listening, and listening to music. All program supplies provided.

PCSR Walking Club (in person)

Join us a couple Fridays a month to go for a hike on a Pierce County trail.  This program is in person so participants must wear a mask while walking in the group.  We meet the second and fourth Friday of the month at paved trails through out Pierce County.

PCSR Virtual CLUB Pierce

Let’s have some fun together virtually each Thursday! Virtual Club Pierce is designed around the same principles as Club Pierce: volunteerism, life skills, socialization, and fun. Participants ages 20 and older will take part in games, crafts, virtual field trips, and more. Weekly registration closes the Thursday before each Club meeting.  

Access to an internet capable computer/laptop/tablet/cell phone provided by the participant's parent/guardian is required for participation. All other required supplies will be provided and will need to be picked up from a Pierce County Parks community center on the Monday prior to Thursday's meeting. Please indicate your preferred community center (Lakewood Community Center, Meridian Habitat Community Center, or Sprinker Recreation Center) choice in the registration process.

PCSR CLUB Pierce (In Person)

Let's get together and have some fun! Clubbers, ages 20 and older, will take part in personally enriching activities while enhancing socialization with peers and community members, increasing independence skills. Participants will also enjoy crafts, sports, cooking, and other fun activities on location at the Lakewood Community Center. Weekly registration closes the Thursday before each Club meeting.
