The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a FLOOD WATCH for Pierce County rivers effective Thursday morning (January 23) through Friday afternoon (January 24). With moderate to heavy rainfall forecast in the lowlands and mountains, coupled with rising snow levels, there is a potential for minor flooding to occur on Pierce County river and stream systems.
A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding but flooding is not imminent or occurring. Residents living in or near riverine and stream floodplain areas are highly encouraged to watch latest forecasts from the NWS and river conditions. Residents should be ready to take the necessary actions to safely protect life and property, if flooding occurs or a flood warning is issued by the NWS.
