Swan Creek Bank Stabilization & 64th Street Outfall Repair

What's Happening

There is an approximate four-foot drop at the downstream end of the culvert that crosses 64th Street East along Swan Creek. This drop contributes to fish impassibility. Pierce County is partnering with the Puyallup Tribe of Indians to provide improved fish passage and stream bank stabilization in the reach of the channel.

About the Project

This project proposes to use a combination of large woody material, streambed gravel, and plantings to eliminate the vertical drop and stabilize the streambanks. This will slow erosion and allow the creek to return to a more natural state. This will improve fish usage of the stream and reduce need for maintenance efforts resulting from erosion. Construction is tentatively scheduled for 2022.

Pierce County will seek grant funding to combine with Surface Water Management Funds for this project.
