Citing their respect and admiration for all Vietnam-era military veterans, members of the Pierce County Council unanimously adopted resolution R2015-39 at their March 31 meeting.
“So much was asked of our service members at a time when nobody could have been prepared for the kind of battles that they fought,” said Councilmember Doug Richardson, who represents the 6th Council District. “In fact, my brother served during the Vietnam War and his service is what inspired me to join the Army when the time came.”
The resolution calls on all citizens of Pierce County to celebrate with activities recognizing and showing appreciation for Vietnam War veterans and their families. Richardson, himself a retired U.S. Army brigadier general, said passing the resolution is only one small way to pay tribute to Vietnam-era military veterans.
“The United States Congress set aside March 29 as a special day to honor members of the armed forces who served in South Vietnam and throughout Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, and I’m glad that Pierce County is following suit,” Richardson said. “We will always be grateful for the faithful service and contributions of our veterans both overseas and at home.”
