Voter registration deadline fast approaching

Wednesday Oct 03 2012 3:33 PM

To vote in the upcoming presidential election you first must be registered.

Saturday, Oct. 6 is the last day to register to vote or change your address by mail. Mail-in registration forms must be postmarked on or before Oct. 6. (Monday, Oct. 8, is the normal deadline, but this year that date falls on Columbus Day, a postal holiday.)

Monday, Oct. 8 is the last day to register or change your address online. Register at www.vote.wa.gov.

The Pierce County Auditor's Office will be open Saturday, Oct. 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. to assist voters should they experience problems registering online. The state online registration site will experience high volumes. If voters experience problems they can call the Elections Division at 253-798-VOTE (8683).

"We're providing more options than ever for people who want to register or update their registrations. Mail, online, drop off or in-person. But, we need voters to do their part, too. Register NOW. We're waiting for you," said Pierce County Auditor Julie Anderson.

Registration forms are also available on the Auditor's website, www.piercecountywa.org/elections. Completed forms can be dropped off at any of Pierce County's ballot drop boxes through midnight Monday, Oct. 8.

The last day to register in person in the Auditor's Office (new Washington voters only) is Oct. 29.

The Pierce County Auditor's Office is responsible for elections, licensing services, a variety of public records and animal control services.
